“Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.” Brillat-Savarin

Food is my religion.  The kitchen is my sanctuary and restaurants are my meccas.  To me, food is not just nutrition, it is a vehicle for pleasure.  We’re supposed to eat at least 3 times a day, so might as well make the most of it!

I grew up cooking with my mom and helping her prepare to host guests for dinners.  I socialized with friends by going out to restaurants and cafes. I explored new countries through gastroaming the dining establishments and markets. I even explored my biological heritage through learning about the food (as a result, I was much more easily able to navigate Korea and learn some of the language).  My relationship with food is an expression of my family, friends, interests, preferences, and life experiences, and by extension, understanding the breadth of a people’s cuisine is a wonderful way to learn about the people themselves.

Welcome to my exploration of the world by way of food!

My adventures with food started a long time ago, and they have become more and more serious over time.  In the process, I compiled a miniature database of over 300 restaurants I have been to in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.  While I don’t go all mok-bang, I have perhaps overindulged in my spreading of food porn via Facebook.

So began my blog.

This blog is intended to be a collection of my food experiences.  My goal is to share the experience regarding several aspects including food&drink, price, and venue.  However, since I believe people like to enjoy food in different ways, and I enjoy food in many different ways as well, I try review establishments with many purposes in mind.

The focus is on independent restaurants and local/regional chains. While it started in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where I lived for most of my life, I have expanded it to include my travels and shifted the “home base” to San Francisco where I now live.
